Civil War Era Lock Box

$625.00

Weighs Approx: 1.4 lbs. Measures Approx: 4 “ tall, and about 5 “ x 11” . Made from wood (what type ?) Lock on front, initialed “A.E.G.” on top. Intricately detailed painting throughout Back is dated , “Jan. 1 , 1865” w/ a monogram on top and below it. Interior wood is fairly clean and unremarkable, interior silk and thread is fraying in areas. Upper lid metal insert (to assist in locking) is missing. Underneath exterior bottom is significantly worn. Exterior to me, appears to have been all hand-drawn / hand-stenciled / hand-painted . Obviously, a very personal gift. One of my personal favs i’ve seen in awhile. Another wicked cool & mega-awesome antique schoolgirl’s personal trinket / lock box. (Maybe her pencil box for school?) It looks fairly too well done for it to have been her daily school pencil box. Either way, its perfect just the way it is.
