Grand Tour Bronze Obelisk Thermometer
Weighs Approx: 2.9 lbs. Measures Approx: 10 ½ “ tall, base is about 3 ¾ “ per side, square. NOTE: the mercury appears to have been removed from the tube, a small amount coats the very bottom. This bronze on marble thermometer was modeled after the Luxor Obelisk of Paris , which was erected in 1836, this was most likely made sometime shortly afterwards as a souvenir for world travelers, on their ‘grand tour’, etc…The actual obelisk was erected in the Place de la Concorde in Paris, France. There great Pharoah, Ramses II had it commissioned in Egypt during his reign. NOTE: dust settles in and around the fence surrounding the base perimeter, be careful cleaning that are, as it appears to be made from tin / light-weight metal, not bronze.
